Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp in Venice

Venice is currently hosting the filming of the new Hollywood movie “The Tourist.” German Oscar-winner Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is directing the film. But work on the upcoming blockbuster starring superstars Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp is progressing only slowly: thousands of euphoric fans are seriously disrupting filming in Venice.

Difficult conditions for the film crew in Venice

Filming is moving ahead slowly because countless fans are crowding around the locations—a major expense when making a Hollywood film. On one day of shooting in Venice, filming even had to be stopped in the middle of a scene because of the huge crowds of fans. Security staff could no longer keep the masses under control. Jolie and Depp were filming a scene on a boat. The fans made so much noise that, exasperated, the film crew gave up filming in Venice for the day.

Filming in Venice, with scenes being shot at the Hotel Danieli and on the city’s waterways, is also overshadowed by rumors: Johnny Depp is allegedly planning to stop filming “The Tourist” at the request of his wife, Vanessa Paradis. The reason is jealousy: Paradis is said to be very unhappy about her husband filming with Angelina Jolie. US actress Jennifer Aniston knows all too well what can happen when filming with Jolie: Jolie stole Brad Pitt from Aniston during a shoot.

So, while shooting “The Tourist” in Venice—his first major test in Hollywood—director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck has to contend with numerous obstacles. We wish the German Oscar winner success in completing filming in Venice.
