Belluno combines urban history, art collections and mountain landscapes in a clearly defined travel destination. If you would like to choose your stay not only according to a single highlight but also according to different cultural and scenic focal points, Belluno offers specific points of reference: historic buildings, themed walks, railway connections and trails in the area around Monte Serva.

Cultural History in Belluno

One central cultural site is Palazzo Fulcis De Bertoldi. Following a restoration project that began in 2012, it became the new home of the historical and artistic collections of the Civic Museums of Belluno. The exhibition space of Palazzo Fulcis covers around 3,000 m² and is spread across five levels. This means that a single building represents an extensive museum focus that you can take into account when planning the cultural focus of your stay.

Belluno’s new cathedral also combines architectural history with art. It was built from 1517 onwards according to a design by Tullio Lombardo and preserves works by Cesare Vecellio, Andrea Meldolla, known as lo Schiavone, Jacopo Da Ponte, Andrea Brustolon and Gaspare Diziani. Palazzo dei Rettori adds to this historical picture: it was the seat of the Venetian rectors who governed Belluno and its territory for almost four hundred years. At Porta Dojona, the inner arch was erected in 1289 by Vecello da Cusighe for the bishop and count Adalgerio da Villalta.

Hiking Trails and Monte Serva

The scenic focus includes the Valle dell’Ardo. There, some trails are part of the trail network of the Club Alpino Italiano and are open to hikers. Monte Serva lies within a national park and, with the documented hike from Col di Roanza to its summit via trail 517, offers a specific tour option. Trail 517 takes around three and a half hours. This approximate duration applies specifically to this hike and is not intended as a general time estimate for other trails.

Getting There and Exploring the Old Town

Belluno is served by two railway lines: Padua–Montebelluna–Feltre–Belluno and Venice–Treviso–Conegliano–Ponte nelle Alpi–Belluno. The first connection runs via Montebelluna and Feltre, while the second runs via Treviso, Conegliano and Ponte nelle Alpi. These named connections provide a specific rail option for travel planning without presupposing other forms of arrival.

Anyone wishing to explore the old town in a structured way can also include the Scoprire Belluno project. Scoprire Belluno offers five themed walks for exploring Belluno’s old town. This makes it possible to view the historic urban area as a coherent subject for exploration, while the cathedral, Palazzo dei Rettori and Porta Dojona each provide their own historical focal points.

If you would like to compare Belluno with other destinations, you can find Corte, San Pietro di Cadore, Santo Stefano Di Cadore, Colmean and Tignes here.
