Farra d'Alpago lies on the northern shore of Lake Santa Croce. This makes it a destination whose appeal can be discovered both through the landscape around the water and through several independent cultural sites. The town offers you specific points of interest: a circular trail with two described starting options, extensive wetlands, water sports on the lake, and churches with historically and artistically remarkable details.

Lake Shore, Wetlands and Circular Trail

The Sentiero Anello Nordic Walking Poiatte-Runal can begin in the centre of Farra d'Alpago or on the shore of Lake Santa Croce in front of the campsite. These two specified starting points give the circular trail a different local orientation, without requiring you to commit to a single starting area. The Oasi di Sbarai, an extensive wetland, is also located along the shores of Lake Santa Croce. It is therefore one of the explicitly named landscape areas around the lake.

Lake Santa Croce is a popular destination for windsurfers, kitesurfers and sailors. If you are interested in these forms of water sports, Farra d'Alpago is also home to the IAT Alpago, in the immediate vicinity of Lake Santa Croce. The tourist information office provides information about accommodation and sports opportunities in the Alpago area. This allows you to combine orientation regarding the local offerings with views of the lake and its sporting opportunities.

Churches and Religious Heritage

The parish church of Santi Filippo e Giacomo contains works by Andrea Brustolon. The church also houses a Calvary group consisting of three wooden statues.

The Church of San Vigilio was completely rebuilt between 1627 and 1637. It also preserves a stone fragment from the 7th century. The church thus combines a clearly dated reconstruction with a much older surviving fragment. Another religious site is the Madonna del Runal chapel, dedicated to the Nativity of the Madonna. It is also regarded beyond the borders of Alpago as a well-known place of Marian devotion.

The annual Feast of Madonna del Runal takes place on 8 September and also attracts worshippers from nearby communities in Friuli. This date marks a specific recurring occasion within the religious life of the area. It complements the permanently existing churches and chapel with an annually celebrated religious event.

A Museum Visit with an Outdoor Programme

As another excursion destination, the Museo regionale dell'Uomo in Cansiglio “Anna Vieceli” offers guided outdoor visits as part of the “Museo e Territorio” programme. These visits include a stop at the museum. This gives you a choice of differently designed experiences between the lake, cultural sites and such a programme.
