Vigonza offers several ways to explore its culture and character: villas with different historical stories, a rural borgo, paths in a renovated green area connected to the Tergola, and a year-round events programme. When planning your stay, you can choose a focus based on whether you are especially interested in architectural history, a walk through the town, getting around on foot or by bike, or the performing arts.

Villas and Early Local History

Two villas show how differently history can be read here. Villa Pavanello in Peraga, also known as Badoer and Boldù, is protected as a cultural asset under Part II, Article 10, paragraph 3 and Article 13, paragraph 1 of Italian Legislative Decree No. 42 of 22 January 2004. It was placed under protection by D.D.R. dated 9 March 2007. In 1520, Villa Barisoni-Capodilista was transformed from old feudal structures into a noble residence by Nicolò Barisoni and embellished with stylistic elements that preceded the architectural language codified by Andrea Palladio. The comparison highlights two different historical perspectives: Pavanello is defined by its legal protection as a cultural asset, while Barisoni-Capodilista is defined by the history of its transformation and design.

The parish church of Santa Margherita di Vigonza also offers an early historical reference: it was founded before 1136, as documented. It may already have been a monastic church; it was probably entrusted to the Augustinian Canons of Porto. The documented date of foundation and the tentative interpretation of its function represent distinct historical layers.

Borgo, Green Space and Paths

You can get to know the Borgo rurale di Vigonza with a walk along the village streets. Along the way, you can see the houses, the theatre, the threshing barn and the central fountain. The route focuses on the rural character of the town and several of its features, rather than just a single building.

The Tergola River flows through the Vigonza area and is connected to a renovated green space. You can explore the paths in the area on foot or by bicycle. While a walk through the borgo focuses on the built environment, the paths in the green space offer a way to get around on foot or by bike.

The Vecchio Tunnel di Busa di Vigonza is closed to motor traffic and accessible only to pedestrians and cyclists. Both the green space and the tunnel are described as open to pedestrians and cyclists; for the tunnel, the exclusion of motor traffic is also explicitly stated. This access restriction may change.

Theatre and Other Cultural Perspectives

The Teatro Comunale Quirino De Giorgio hosts theatre events, concerts, artistic performances and other events throughout the year. Programmes vary by season. The cultural venues thus offer different focuses: the villas centre on architectural history, while the specific events at the theatre depend on programmes that change with the seasons.

The municipality offers a QR code about the urban design of Vigonza’s centre, which you can use to listen to an audio guide. Castello dei Da Peraga is set in a large green park.
