Poffabro lies at the foot of Monte Raut on the left side of the Colvera. The village is characterized by exposed sandstone surfaces, arches and arcades, wooden balconies, and paved paths. Together, these elements convey a vivid impression of ways of life and traditions that have now largely disappeared. If you are looking for accommodation in Poffabro, you can therefore plan your stay around both village culture and the area's landscape experiences.

Culture and craftsmanship in Poffabro

The cultural sites include the Church of San Nicolò Vescovo. It contains a gilded 17th-century wooden altar dedicated to the Rosary. Another site is the Frisanco Visitor Center, located in Poffabro's former cheese dairy building. The Poffabro Visitor Center preserves the original cheese-making machines and tools from the 1930s. The upper floor also presents the geomorphology, vegetation, and animal and plant species of the protected area.

Along the visitor route through Poffabro, at Via Villanova 14, there is a craft exhibition about the Scarpeti. The Poffabro information point provides informational materials about the village and the Friulian Dolomites Nature Park. This location is suitable for getting your bearings initially if you want to combine cultural impressions with information about the landscape.

Sentiero dei Landris and trails through the landscape

The Sentiero dei Landris begins at the little church in Buffui on the road from Poffabro to Forcella di Pala Barzana. Two distinctive rock formations lie along the trail: Landri Viert is a tall rock arch with an arched edge. Landri Scur consists of low, deep, horizontal cavities in a hollow bordered by a rock wall. Those particularly interested in natural formations when planning their trip will find specific destinations here along a named trail.

The Frassati Trail also passes through Poffabro. Cyclists can reach the village via the R005 cycling route. You can then leave your bicycle in the square and explore the narrow paved lanes on foot. This allows you to combine different interests without conflating the distinct characteristics of each activity: the R005 takes you to Poffabro by bicycle, while the walk through the village and along the local paths is done on foot.

A special period in winter

From mid-December to mid-January, “Poffabro, Presepe tra i Presepi” takes place. During this period, around one hundred nativity scenes are distributed in unusual locations around the historic center. If you choose accommodation for this travel period, you can specifically combine your stay with this seasonal perspective on the village. Outside this period, the architecture, cultural sites, Sentiero dei Landris, and trails leading through Poffabro remain the defining themes for planning your trip.
