Discover Taipana: Nature, Hiking Trails and Rural Culture
Accommodation in Taipana
Taipana combines nature experiences, selected hiking trails, cycling and rural culture. Anyone looking for accommodation for a stay in Taipana can plan their trip around their preferred experiences: the program includes protected landscapes, waterfalls, viewpoints, historic buildings and a museum with regional connections.
Natural Area between Gran Monte and the Natisone Springs
A defining destination is the municipal association park “Parco comunale Gran Monte e sorgenti del Natisone”. It covers the municipality of Taipana and spans 3,528.98 hectares. Parts of the Natura 2000 site SAC IT3320017 Rio Bianco di Taipana e Gran Monte and the Natura 2000 site SPA IT3321002 Alpi Giulie also belong to this park. This makes it possible to get to know Taipana through different aspects of its landscape, without reducing the area to a single excursion destination.
The Cascata della Certenja is another specific natural attraction. The waterfall is 8 metres high and has a small pond at its foot. A descending path leads there from Tanaiauarie; at a fork, the left-hand branch leads to the waterfall.
Hiking Routes with Different Focal Points
The “Anello di Zore” circular route follows a marked trail shared by bicycles and hikers. Along the way, views open up onto Monte Matajur. A large car park is available for this circular route at Taipana’s sports facilities. Those planning this tour can include the shared section of the trail and the designated car park in their own itinerary.
The “Anello Sorgenti del Cornappo” circular route offers a different focus. It is described as a moderately difficult hiking loop and offers views of the first section of the Rio Cornappo, with small waterfalls, forests and scree slopes. Clear water flowing down from Gran Monte can also be seen. There is a small car park for this circular route at the entrance to Tanaiauarie. The two hiking options mentioned therefore differ not only in name, but also in their landscape impressions, trail character and the respective parking arrangements indicated.
Taipana Trail Zone for Cycling
The Taipana Trail Zone comprises 13.5 kilometres of gravity downhill trails and has a jump area with a Big Air jump. The offering also includes the Spin8 trail, where riders can combine cross-country and downhill riding. These facts appeal to travellers who do not want to plan their stay solely around traditional walks or sightseeing.
Rural Culture and Regional Specialties
In the village of Prossenicco, the “Testimonianze della civiltà contadina” museum is housed in the rectory. It presents an extensive exhibition of everyday objects from rural life and contains a valuable collection of Pust masks from the traditional Slovenian carnival. The museum complements the nature and sports activities with a cultural perspective on the region’s way of life.
Another special feature is Azienda Agricola Zore. Around 100 chamois goats originating from the Alps are kept there and taken out to pasture from May to October. The milk is processed by hand into cheese and other dairy products in the farm’s own cheese dairy. Azienda Agricola Zore also has a farm shop. Anyone interested in agricultural production and regional food can plan this place as a separate item on their itinerary.
Historic Paths and Orientation in the Surrounding Area
Below Montemaggiore, in the direction of the sources of the Rio Bianco, stands the ancient Roman bridge of Montemaggiore, a stone structure of historical significance. The path from the bridge to Prossenicco crosses the Cammino Celeste, which runs through this part of Friulian Slavia. In addition to circular routes and natural attractions, Taipana therefore offers a combination of a historic structure and a long-distance trail route.
The starting points, routes and attractions mentioned give your trip planning a concrete structure.
