Punta Sabbioni: Trails, Lighthouse and Lagoon
Accommodation in Punta Sabbioni
Punta Sabbioni can be explored via a variety of trails, structures and connections. The character of the area becomes particularly clear on two routes: Via del Tramonto covers 12.9 km on mixed surfaces and has a moderate difficulty level, while La Via del Respiro is a raised cycle and pedestrian path that runs directly above the Venice Lagoon for 7 km. Added to these are the Faro Pagoda di Punta Sabbioni lighthouse, historic fortifications and ACTV connections to Venice, the Lido and Burano.
Cycling routes with different profiles
Via del Tramonto is designated for city bikes, mountain bikes and Nordic walking. Its combination of a length of 12.9 km, mixed surfaces and a moderate difficulty level already provides clear guidance when choosing the right mode of transport.
La Via del Respiro on Via Pordelio offers a different landscape experience. The raised cycle and pedestrian path stretches for 7 km directly above the Venice Lagoon. Its construction above the water clearly distinguishes it from a route with mixed surfaces on the ground. Each of the two routes has its own distinct character.
Fortifications Trail and Forte Treporti
The area's military history can also be identified through specific names. Forte Treporti, also known as Forte Vecchio, is a military fortification near Lio Grando on the Fortifications Trail in Punta Sabbioni. The name refers to the same structure, not to two separate facilities.
Via delle Fortificazioni includes Batteria Amalfi and Forte Treporti in Punta Sabbioni. Those interested in the fortifications can consider the Fortifications Trail and the structures mentioned there as a distinct cultural focus alongside the cycling routes.
The Faro Pagoda di Punta Sabbioni
Another distinctive structure is the Faro Pagoda di Punta Sabbioni. Its construction began in 1882 and was completed in 1910. The lighthouse is 26 metres high and has a pagoda-shaped metal structure with black-and-white chequered terraces. These architectural features give the Faro a clearly recognisable form of its own and distinguish it from the military facilities along the Fortifications Trail.
ACTV connections for orientation
Two ACTV connections are relevant for your arrival and orientation at the location. ACTV line 14 connects Burano, Punta Sabbioni, Lido S.M.E. and Venice, or San Marco–San Zaccaria. This connection places Punta Sabbioni within a network linking various destinations in the lagoon and Venice.
The ACTV ferry connection on line 17 includes the connection between Tronchetto and Lido San Nicolò, as well as the section between Lido San Nicolò and Punta Sabbioni. The two sections mentioned describe another connection via Lido San Nicolò and thus complement the destinations served by line 14.
