Angiari combines a multifaceted local history with landscapes along the Adige. Historic churches, a cycle path along the riverbanks that can be used year-round, the Corte Sparavieri in Boscarola and the species-rich floodplain provide you with several specific starting points for exploring the area. In addition, the “Sagra e festa dell’Asparago” is a local event that combines agriculture, a market and social gatherings.

Churches with a History

The present-day parish church of San Michele Arcangelo in Angiari was built between 1753 and 1772. It replaced an older parish church documented since 1145, which was later abandoned and demolished. Those interested in the area’s historical development will therefore find not only an 18th-century building here, but also a link to a significantly older ecclesiastical history.

A second important historical trace leads to Santa Croce. The chapel was built in the early years of the 16th century as a chapel subordinate to the parish of San Michele in Angiari. Its first documented mention comes from a will dated 1523. Inside, the walls are decorated with frescoes. The furnishings also include a wooden statue of the Madonna and Child dating from the 16th century, as well as a 17th-century altarpiece depicting the Madonna, the Christ Child and saints. The work is by the painter Giovan Battista de Levis. Santa Croce thus brings together several eras and different forms of sacred art in one place.

Exploring the Adige

For orientation in the landscape, the cycle path along the banks of the Adige is particularly relevant. It runs between Bonavigo, Porto di Legnago, Angiari and Roverchiaretta and can be used year-round.

The Adige floodplain is part of Angiari’s natural environment. Hares, pheasants and woodpeckers can be observed there. These wildlife sightings are connected with the floodplain landscape and complement the cultural attractions with a direct experience of nature.

Boscarola and the Agricultural Character of the Area

The Corte Sparavieri is located in the village of Boscarola. It is an 18th-century residence and was an important centre of agricultural activity in this part of the plain. The site thus points to a rural history that, alongside the churches and the river landscape, offers another way of accessing Angiari.

An Event Celebrating Asparagus

The “Sagra e festa dell’Asparago” adds a culinary and local accent. The event is scheduled for the last Sunday in May. The festival includes a market and sales exhibition, tastings and dance evenings. If you visit Angiari at this time, you will therefore encounter both the area’s agricultural tradition and a public festival with a variety of programme items.
