Valdagno combines a remarkable historic townscape with museums, industrial heritage and trails through the landscape of the Agno Valley. This makes the town suitable for a trip where cultural history and natural history do not have to be considered separately: in the historic centre, at Città Sociale and along the waterways, you will encounter different facets of the town.

Historic Centre and Città Sociale

The historic centre of Valdagno is considered one of the best-preserved smaller centres in the Veneto. Among its notable historical features is Villa Valle, built at the end of the 16th century based on a design attributed to Girolamo Frigimelica Roberti. The former stables of Palazzo Festari house the Galleria dei Nani, which is used for temporary exhibitions.

Another focal point is Città Sociale, also known as Città dell’Armonia. Parco La Favorita was designed in the 1930s as part of this complex. Today, it is a landscape complex covering approximately five hectares, with extensive tree cover and architectural features. In Valdagno, you can therefore explore historic architecture, a landscaped park and the development of the town at different scales.

Museums with Regional and Natural History Themes

The Museo Civico Dal Lago documents the long-standing presence of humans in the upper Agno Valley from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages. This historical focus is complemented by mineralogical, botanical and zoological collections. The museum is open on Saturdays from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm; visits on other days are possible by prior reservation.

The Museo delle Macchine Tessili is located in part of the textile laboratories of IIS Marzotto-Luzzatti in Città Sociale. It offers a virtual tour and an audio guide. Visits are possible by appointment at museo@comune.valdagno.vi.it. This allows you to explore the town’s textile history both on site and initially in digital form.

Waterways and Landscape

The Itinerario Energia runs for approximately 10 km through the valley and focuses on 14 hydroelectric power stations, aqueducts, numerous canals and reservoirs, tunnels between the valleys, and viaducts. Within the municipality of Valdagno, the Ciclabile Agno-Guà runs from Ponte dei Nori along the stream to Piazza Cavour in Città Sociale.

For exploring nature, there are six natural history trails in the Valdagno area, for which maps and guides have been created. One specific example is the Sentiero Braggion, an approximately 7 km circular route through the Valle del Boia. These trails complement the museums and historic buildings with their focus on natural history.

A Local Speciality

Regional everyday culture also has its own local connection in Valdagno. Maresina, also known as Erba madre, has been a product with a municipal designation in Valdagno since 2012. It is primarily associated with the traditional fritola, a dough made from flour, cooked rice and water. The name therefore refers not only to an ingredient but also to a local culinary tradition.

More Places for Planning Your Trip

If you would like to consider other destinations in addition to Valdagno during your trip through the Veneto, you can also visit Marano Vicentino, Poiana Maggiore, Orte, Tresché Conca, Thiene, Pove Del Grappa, Montegalda and San Benedetto.
