Zugliano: Circular Routes, Hills and Historic Sites
Accommodation in Zugliano
If you would like to get to know Zugliano through specific landscape and cultural experiences, the network of routes “Percorsi tra l’Astico e l’Igna” offers five circular routes through the municipality’s most distinctive areas. The routes lead to historical and cultural attractions as well as natural landscapes. This makes it possible to explore the area along routes of varying lengths – from a six-kilometre loop to a route of approximately 33 kilometres, which can also be travelled by bicycle.
Five circular routes with different profiles
The red Anello Rosso No. 5 is a seven-kilometre circular route starting in Centrale, a district of Zugliano. The blue Anello Blu No. 6 covers 11.40 kilometres through the flat and hilly areas of Zugliano, Grumolo Pedemonte and Centrale. Both routes therefore connect several parts of the municipality, but differ considerably in length and in the landscape described.
The yellow Anello Giallo No. 7 is an easy six-kilometre route in Centrale. Its terrain is predominantly flat, with some hilly sections. The green Anello Verde No. 8 is 6.6 kilometres long and runs through the hilly landscape of Grumolo Pedemonte in Zugliano before descending into flatter sections. Its difficulty is rated from moderate to easy. Those wishing to categorise the routes by length, terrain or starting point will therefore find clearly distinct options here.
A longer loop is the orange Anello Arancio. It is approximately 33 kilometres long, described as moderate to easy, and leads through Zugliano and its districts as well as Sarcedo, Carrè and Chiuppano. The route can be walked or travelled by bicycle. Compared with the shorter circular routes, it considerably expands the geographical scope and includes several municipalities.
Churches, Oratories and the Slopes of the Bregonze
The historic buildings also give Zugliano a clearly recognisable profile. The Pieve di Santa Maria is a church whose origins certainly predate the year 1000. The Oratorio di San Biagio in Grumolo Pedemonte, Zugliano, dates back to around the year 1000 and stands on the first hills of the Bregonze. This place therefore combines religious history with a precisely identified hillside location.
The Chiesa dei Santi Maria e Zenone is Zugliano’s parish church. Another prominent landmark is Villa Giusti-Suman. It is located on the slopes of the hills of Zugliano, on the Poggio del “Castello”, and overlooks the plain below. This provides different points of reference for orientation in the area: historic churches, an oratory in Grumolo Pedemonte, the hilly landscape of the Bregonze and a villa in an elevated position.
