Walking trails, local history and skiing all come together in Mareson-Pecol. An easy woodland route connects Mareson and Pecol via Palma. Another trail leads to a small lake; the ValdiZoldo Ski Area is part of the Ski Civetta ski area. Churches, old houses, Tabià and a restored lime kiln add tangible landmarks to the village’s history. This allows you to plan walks, culture and skiing as distinct highlights of your trip.

Walking trails and a destination by the lake

The woodland route between Mareson and Pecol passes through Palma and is easy and flat. Its distinguishing feature is that it connects the two villages. The “strada del fieno” is an almost flat, easy walking trail that is also suitable for families with strollers. Ground conditions on this route may vary by season. The two trails therefore differ in their practical focus: the woodland route connects Mareson and Pecol, while the “strada del fieno” is also suitable for families with strollers.

Above Mareson, the trail marked CAI 498A to Laghetto di Žarnadoi begins on Provincial Road 251, opposite Hotel Corona. The small lake is also known as Laghetto delle Fertaze; both names refer to the same body of water. It is suitable for a picnic and has fire pits, tables and benches. The facilities by the lake may change over time. The trail markings and the condition of the ground may also change. While the woodland route connects the villages, CAI 498A leads to the lake—the two trails therefore have different destinations.

Churches and local history

The historic center of Mareson has several points of interest, including a church, old houses and Tabià. In the church of San Valentino, the Santa Croce chapel contains an altar carved by Andrea Brustolon, depicting the Deposition of Christ. The distinctive bell tower has an onion dome, was built in 1765 and shows the influence of architect Juvarra. San Valentino thus brings together a figurative work in the chapel and the striking shape of the tower.

At La Grava stands a restored historic lime kiln, where lime once used in buildings in Mareson and Pecol was fired. Unlike the church, tower and old houses, it points to the craft production of a building material used in structures in both villages.

A culinary event also features in the history of local events: the 2026 festival programme for “Arte e Musica tra Pelmo e Civetta” included “Gelato e Musica” in Mareson, a public demonstration of artisanal ice cream making followed by a tasting. The event returned from earlier editions.

Skiing in the Ski Civetta area

The ValdiZoldo Ski Area is part of the Ski Civetta ski area. It has 72 kilometres of slopes at altitudes between 1,300 and 2,100 metres and is the largest ski area in Veneto. The number of kilometres of slopes and the connections may change. Slope kilometres and altitude help you get your bearings when considering the ski offering, while walking routes are defined by their course and destination. This makes it easy to distinguish the different priorities when planning your trip.
