Discover Barcis: Lake, Gorge and Nature
Accommodation in Barcis
Barcis can be discovered through several clearly distinct experiences: Lake Barcis, the Forra del Cellina gorge, scenic trails and a historic landmark by the lake. When choosing a place to stay, the focus is therefore on specific landscape, activity and cultural themes, without conflating them into a single excursion destination.
Natural Area and Visitor Centre of the Forra del Cellina
The Forra del Cellina Nature Reserve also includes territory in Barcis. The visitor centre in the hamlet of Ponte Antoi is a fixed point of reference. It houses a thematic exhibition about the nature reserve. Those who would first like to learn about the natural area and its gorge will therefore find not only landscapes in Barcis, but also an exhibition venue expressly dedicated to them.
Several scenic trails run around Lake Barcis. They connect the lakeshore, as a distinct landscape theme, with different views of the surrounding area. There are also picnic areas around Lake Barcis. For planning a day, trails, time by the water and a break outdoors can thus be considered different elements of the same place.
Water, Trails and Viewpoints
Water activities mentioned at Lake Barcis include sailing, surfing, and canoeing and kayaking. Whichever of these water activities you plan changes the focus of your stay at the lake, while the scenic trails around the water offer a different type of experience.
The tunnel of the Vecchia Strada della Valcellina is distinguished by a particular historical and present-day use. It was closed in 1992 and is now reserved for cyclists and pedestrians. This restriction is part of the tunnel's specific visitor experience and distinguishes it from freely selectable motorised routes.
The Skywalk del Dint is a footbridge suspended above the Forra del Cellina. It can be reached via the Sentiero del Dint. This trail also leads to a third viewpoint with a steel structure. From there, a 360-degree view opens up over the pre-Alpine valley system of Andreis and Barcis as well as the gorge. Another striking crossing is the Tibetan bridge over the Forra del Cellina: it is suspended 55 metres above the gorge and offers views of the gorge and the emerald-green waters of the stream.
Character of the Town and Accommodation
A historic building also provides a distinctive feature. Palazzo Centi stands on the shore of Lake Barcis. The building dates from the 16th century, has a representative double loggia and is now equipped as a hotel. Barcis therefore has a specifically named hotel documented as having historic architecture and a lakeside location.
The local character also includes Petuccia, a sheep-meat sausage patented in the valley. Together with the picnic areas, activities on Lake Barcis and the trails along the Forra del Cellina, this creates a selection of regional cuisine, water, scenic views and natural surroundings. For further orientation around the area, you can also consider Vito D'asio, Brugnera, San Vito Al Tagliamento, Fanna, Paludea, Zoppola, Spilimbergo and Casarsa Della Delizia.
