Budoia: Nature Trails, Culture and Cunath Gorge
Accommodation in Budoia
Budoia amid forest trails, water and history
If you would like to combine short nature trails with historic and cultural destinations, Budoia offers several clearly distinct experiences. The options range from easy-to-walk paths through the Colli di Santa Lucia and the valley of the Torrente Artugna to an archaeological site and a gorge with pools and waterfalls. A cycling tour with a return journey by train is also among the documented ways to discover the town and its surroundings.Nature trails with different profiles
The Sentiero naturalistico Troi de Gor is a 2 km nature trail in the Colli di Santa Lucia with a low level of difficulty. It is therefore particularly suitable for a manageable walk focused on the landscape. By contrast, the Sentiero naturalistico San Tomè runs through the valley of the Torrente Artugna from Dardago to San Tomè. It is 2.5 km long, has an elevation gain of 200 m and is also rated as having a low level of difficulty. The length and elevation gain clearly distinguish the two trails, even though both are rated as easy. Another natural attraction is Cunath Gorge. Pools and waterfalls form there beneath high rock walls. The Sentiero del Ruial follows an old water channel from the 17th century, built from hewn stone. This means that the trail connects the landscape with a visible historical testimony without being limited to a purely cultural site.Cultural sites and regional tradition
The Fortezza del Ciastelat is an archaeological site that preserves the remains of a fortress from the 10th century AD. From Ciampore, the path there takes ten minutes. The route is 1 km long, has an elevation gain of 70 m and is rated as having a low level of difficulty. Ciampore itself is located at the entrance to Val de Croda and is a large green area with a car park, outdoor games, barbecue areas and toilets. The Chiesetta di Santa Lucia stands in Colle. Its first construction dates back to the 13th century. During restoration work, a fresco attributed to Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo was discovered there in 1987. From Budoia, the Chiesetta can be reached via a well-maintained forest path. The Museo del Fungo is a permanent exhibition housed in Budoia’s renovated former dairy. The Festa dei Funghi e dell’Ambiente also has a regional connection to mycology: it hosts the regional mycological exhibition and has been held in Budoia for almost 50 years.Cycling tour with return journey by train
For a combination of cycling and rail travel, a 15.4 km cycling tour from Budoia-Polcenigo railway station to Sacile is available. It follows the Ciclovia del Livenza (FVG 7) almost in its entirety and is combined with the return journey by train from Sacile. This distinguishes the outing from the short nature trails and culture-related destinations around Budoia.Other destination pages
