Pagnano brings together historical traces, remarkable religious buildings and paths through different natural landscapes within a small area. For planning your trip, the area around the Maglio di Pagnano is particularly interesting: there is a car park opposite, providing access to the Sentiero degli Ezzelini. At the Maglio, this trail connects with the Sentiero del Lastego. This allows cultural sites and landscapes to be explored together, without reducing the town to a single attraction.

Paths between the Plain, Hills and Foothills

The Sentiero degli Ezzelini passes through changing natural landscapes between the plain, hills and foothills. A circular hike along this trail leads to the Chiesa di San Giovanni and the Maglio di Pagnano d’Asolo. The two destinations represent different sides of the area: here, you encounter a religious building with a viewpoint, while there is a historic complex at the foot of the hill of Asolo.

The Ciclovia di Sant’Antonio also follows a clearly defined route. After leaving Asolo, it follows the BI12 to Ponte di Pagnano. At Ponte di Pagnano, where the Erega and Muson streams meet, mammoth remains were found. The area therefore combines a specific section for cyclists with a prehistoric archaeological site.

Historical Traces in Pagnano d’Asolo

Pagnano d’Asolo is one of the places in the Asolo area with the oldest known settlement traces from prehistoric times to date. This historical depth is complemented by several historic sites. Villa Filippin Zambaldi stands in the historic centre of Pagnano d’Asolo and dates from the mid-18th century.

The Maglio di Pagnano complex is located in Pagnano at the foot of the hill of Asolo. It consists of a forge, a rear service building and a residential building. The Maglio is therefore not merely a name along the trail, but an ensemble of several architectural elements. The Chiesa di San Gregorio was also a historic meeting place for the “Uomini de Comun”, who administered Pagnano during the period of the Podestà of Asolo.

Further details relating to art and church history can be found in the Chiesa dei Santi Cosma e Damiano in Pagnano d’Asolo. There, in 1874, Noè Bordignon painted a fresco dedicated to the holy physicians and the resurrection of the flesh. During restoration work in 1961, two graves were discovered beneath the floor of the Chiesa di Pagnano d’Asolo. The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista in Pagnano has a viewpoint and is also one of the destinations on the circular hike described above.

By the Muson dei Sassi

The area around the Muson dei Sassi is considered favourable for little egrets and grey herons; it offers shallow water, small fish and quiet conditions. This connection with nature adds another specific aspect of the surroundings to the historic destinations. Depending on your interests, Pagnano allows you to combine architectural history, religious art, walking routes and the described waterside habitats.
