Treviso combines a multifaceted art history with the River Sile, distinctive natural areas and paths that bring culture and landscape together. If you would like to explore Veneto independently, you will find both historic collections and specific destinations by the water here. The Sile flows through the streets of Treviso and therefore directly shapes the character of the city.

Art and history in Treviso

An important cultural site is the Museo Santa Caterina. The complex was built from 1346 onwards on the remains of the destroyed palace of the Da Camino lords of Treviso as a monastery of the Servite Order. It includes a church dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The church contains frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries, including the cycle of Saint Ursula by Tomaso da Modena. The museum’s collection extends from an archaeological department to a gallery of medieval, Renaissance and modern art.

The Church of San Nicolò is also located within Treviso’s city walls, in the southwest of the city. Its columns feature 14th-century frescoes from the school of Tommaso da Modena. The Museo Luigi Bailo focuses on a different period, with artistic works from the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum also houses more than 150 works by Arturo Martini. In Treviso, older sacred painting, Renaissance art and modern artistic positions can thus be brought together in different collections.

The Museo Etnografico Provinciale “Case Piavone” offers another perspective on the region. It is located in a rural architectural complex whose origins date back to the late 17th century. Temporary exhibitions are held there and events featuring folk traditions are organised. Treviso is also home to an altarpiece depicting the Annunciation by Titian.

The Sile, nature and paths by the water

The Parco della Storga represents the transition from urban history to the landscape. It covers 67 hectares and extends across the municipalities of Treviso and Carbonera. The park contains areas where springs emerge: groundwater reaches the surface there and forms distinctive ecological systems.

The Parco Naturale Regionale del Fiume Sile can be reached from Treviso central station by bus no. 5 towards S. Cristina and Quinto di Treviso, getting off at the S. Maria del Sile stop. This specific connection may be of interest if you would like to combine a nature experience with travel from Treviso. At the Burci cemetery, the path follows the Sile over walkways between the wrecks and through richly diverse nature.

The cycle path along the Sile from Treviso to Casale sul Sile also combines art, history and nature. The Isola della Pescheria was created in the River Cagnan to accommodate the fish market. River courses, historic uses and paths by the water are therefore among the different aspects to consider when exploring Treviso.

Regional cuisine and other places

Radicchio Rosso di Treviso IGP is cultivated in the landscape around Treviso. It forms part of a culinary route through the region and complements the cultural and natural impressions with a regional product.
