Orsago: Church, Villas and Nature
Accommodation in Orsago
Orsago combines sacred history, Venetian villas and a diverse natural environment. If you would like to discover the town independently, you will find various points of interest here: an inhabited villa, archaeological evidence and the Andar par rivai area with hedges, a spring-fed stream and cultivated areas.
Churches, Archaeology and Historic Villas
A prominent historical reference point is the parish church of San Benedetto Abate. It was consecrated to Saint Benedict the Abbot on the first Sunday of September 1695. It is therefore one of the tangible historical testimonies through which the history of Orsago can be directly traced.
Another chapter reaches much further back: in the Prà della Stalla area, the funerary aedicule of the Terentii was discovered while ploughing in 1949. Today, this funerary monument is on display at the Museo di Treviso. The municipal library of Orsago complements the cultural offering as a public reading facility with a catalogued collection of books.
In the Palù area near Orsago, flint tools used for hunting—including arrowheads, scrapers for working hides and blades for cutting—as well as primitive ceramic objects were found. They date from the final phases of the Neolithic, and thus from the period between 4000 and 3000 BC.
Several villas provide further historical points of reference in the townscape. Villa Sbrojavacca-Zanin dates from the 17th century and was built by the noble Sbrojavacca family. At the rear are a large park and a loggia with cross-vaulted ceilings; mascarons can be seen in the round arches. The villa is inhabited and can therefore only be viewed from the outside. This distinction is important for your planning: here, you can take in the architectural details from an exterior view.
Villa Priuli-Chastonnay-Da Re was built at the end of the 17th century by the Venetian noblewoman Ninfa Priuli. The year 1689 is engraved in the floor beneath the entrance portico. Villa Licini, by contrast, was built in 1879 by the family of the same name. It is located on Via Mazzini and can be discovered while taking a walk. The historic sites therefore differ both in terms of when they were built and in how you can experience them.
Andar par rivai and the Natural Landscape
The equipped Andar par rivai area can be reached via the blue trail or the trail called Andar par rivai. The landscape there reflects the typical character of the Po Valley: agricultural areas are bordered by medium-height hedges. When choosing between culture and nature, this area therefore offers a clear second focus alongside the churches and villas.
The spring-fed stream has a predominantly sandy bed. Water plants, sticklebacks and frogs are found there.
There is currently a wooden tower in the Risorgive area that serves as an observation tower. Together with Andar par rivai, it expands Orsago’s connection to nature through specific places and structures, rather than limiting it to a general description of the landscape.
