San Biagio Di Callalta is a suitable choice if you want to combine historical traces with a clearly documented cycling experience. The town offers different ways to explore its history: through a ruin dating from the late 14th century, Venetian villas, a museum dedicated to the period of the First World War and the history of the name “Callis Alta”. In addition, the La Piave Marathon offers a predominantly flat cycling tour along the Piave embankments.

Historical traces in San Biagio di Callalta

The vecchia pieve di S.Biagio was built at the end of the 14th century and is now in ruins. Thus, it is not a fully preserved building that is the focus here, but precisely the surviving and now ruinous condition of this historical landmark. Villa Navagero-Erizzo, built at the end of the 17th century, is also located in Rovarè. In Spercenigo, Villa Mariani is one of the Venetian villas that have survived to this day. Those who pay attention to different historical periods when choosing a destination will therefore find both a medieval church ruin and buildings representing Venetian villa culture here.

The name San Biagio di Callalta also refers to two levels of the town’s history. In addition to Saint San Biagio, it refers to the late antique Roman military road “Callis Alta”, now SS 53 “Postumia”. This connection provides a specific historical explanation of the place name and complements the visible buildings with a reference to the former history of transport and military activity.

Museums and memorial sites

The Museo della Guerra 1915-1918 in the Sacrario Militare di Fagarè displays weapons, memorabilia, photographs, documents and evidence from the First World War. The collection is therefore particularly interesting if you want to explore military history not only through buildings, but also through specific objects and visual and written sources. The historic collection also includes the former reception building of San Biagio di Callalta railway station, which was converted into the World Police Museum in 2017. Its former function as a reception building remains part of its classification.

La Piave Marathon by bicycle

The La Piave Marathon offers a clearly described cycling tour for cycle tourism. It uses the cycle paths along the Piave embankments and is predominantly flat. The river section of the La Piave Marathon runs from the bridge between San Biagio di Callalta and Ponte di Piave to the Parco Fluviale di San Donà di Piave and is 20.630 km long. The kilometre figure refers to this specified river section. If you choose a cycling tour based on its route and terrain, this provides you with a specific point of reference: documented paths along the Piave embankments, a predominantly flat route and a clearly named section between the bridge and the river park.

Time-limited route information

A clearly time-limited restriction affected the San Biagio–Olmi cycle and footpath. It was closed on 19 August 2026 due to roadworks; the works were expected to last until 6 September 2026. This information describes an earlier, dated traffic situation and should not be understood as a general or permanent closure.
