Istrana combines historic architecture, routes with a long tradition and a landscape shaped by springs and the River Sile.

Historic Sites and Built Heritage

A central point of reference is Villa Lattes. It was completed in 1715 and designed by the Venetian architect Giorgio Massari (1687–1766). The complex includes two barchesse, an oratory, several historic buildings formerly used for agricultural purposes and a historic park. The park contains two statues by Marinali and busts of the twelve Caesars. The site therefore represents an ensemble whose individual components extend beyond the villa building itself.

Istrana is also home to Villa Moretti, a protected historic building dating from around 1800. Another historic trace is the Old Roman Postumia Road, which runs through Istrana and was later also called the “Napoleonic Road”. It was used as a historic route by armies and pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista is listed in the cultural heritage inventory of the Province of Treviso.

The cultural programme also has its own historical connection. The Teatro in Villa theatre series is organised by the Istrana library in cooperation with the Pro Loco and the Il Satiro Teatro association. It complements the architectural heritage with a cultural event format, without implying any specific programme.

River Landscape and Routes through the Municipal Area

The Istrana area includes a spring-fed lowland along the River Sile, which forms part of the river landscape. The Rio de Na Volta is a nature-focused route in Istrana. It originated from a project launched in 2019 to revive the memory of natural sites. Both references make the landscape visible as an independent theme of the town, alongside its historic buildings.

The Passeggiata Ecologica held its 43rd edition in 2025. It is a historic local event dedicated to rediscovering the natural landscape of the municipal area. For the chronological context, it is important that this information refers to the 2025 edition; it does not imply a future event date.

Regional Traditions and Events

Istrana is one of the municipalities in the Province of Treviso crossed by the river and included in the production area of the Sile rainbow trout. This also connects the river landscape with the regional culinary tradition. At Tre Comuni, 100% buffalo milk, milked within the previous twelve hours, is processed immediately in front of visitors.

The local event culture also includes the 41st edition of the Festa dell'Agricoltura di Istrana. It took place from 13 to 16 September and from 20 to 23 September at the parish sports centre in Sala di Istrana. The event points to the agricultural character of regional traditions, while Villa Lattes, Villa Moretti and the historic routes provide the cultural setting.
