Cappella Maggiore is an interesting destination if you would like to combine art, local olive culture and historic sites. A special thread runs from sacred art through Castelletto to paths and facilities that explain olive cultivation. This makes it possible to explore different facets of the area deliberately, without reducing them to a single experience.

Art and history in the town

The parish church of Santa Maria Maddalena contains several remarkable works. These include the “Pala di Santa Maria Maddalena” by Pietro Pajetta, the oil painting “Santissima Trinità fra le Sante Lucia e Giuliana” by Antonio Lazzarini from the late 17th or early 18th century, and the Anconetta “Il Sacro Cuore di Gesù” by Vincenzo Raccanelli. The furnishings are complemented by numerous frescoes by Demetrio Alpago from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The oldest work is the “Last Supper”, dated to the beginning of the 14th century.

Castelletto offers another historical point of reference. It was rebuilt in the 10th century after being damaged by the invasions of the Hungarians and was probably one of the fortifications that served as strategic control points in the Cenedese area. For planning your visit, its special opening rule is important: Castelletto is open only on the occasion of events.

The “Artists’ Roads” in Cappella Maggiore also lead to an art-historical detail. A work by Francesco da Milano, painted shortly after 1525, is displayed there. Together with the parish church and the “Last Supper”, this creates a broad chronological view of the town’s art.

Olive cultivation as a topic in its own right

The experimental olive grove lies on a gently south-facing slope near the Castelletto di Cappella Maggiore. An information board tells visitors about the planting scheme and the varieties under observation. This makes visible not only the result of the cultivation, but also its planned arrangement and the selection of varieties.

The olive trail “Alla scoperta dell’oro giallo di Cappella Maggiore” leads up the hill where the experimental olive grove is located and runs near Castelletto. The municipal olive mill hosts educational and informative activities about olive cultivation. In the educational olive grove near the primary school, pupils and other interested visitors can learn about olive cultivation, the area and its characteristic products under the guidance of teachers, parents or other qualified personnel.

A clearly dated example of the importance of this topic was the event “L’Olio della Serenissima 2026”. It was scheduled to take place in Cappella Maggiore from 10 to 19 April 2026 and was organised for the fourth consecutive year by the municipal administration and the “La Ruota” association.
