Discover Vedelago
Accommodation in Vedelago
Vedelago combines distinctive buildings with the natural landscape of the Sile springs. The Church of San Martino Vescovo stands at the centre, while Villa Emo, an important example of Venetian villa architecture, is located within the municipality. The cultural picture is complemented by the Oratory of San Mamante and Villa Zuccareda. The GiraSile, meanwhile, leads through a landscape whose starting point is at the Porta dell'Acqua. This allows you to discover Vedelago through clearly distinct historical and landscape sites.
Historical Highlights in the Town Centre
The centre of Vedelago is dominated by the Church of San Martino Vescovo. The present church was designed in 1926 by architect Luigi Candiani. This means that the town centre contains a specific 20th-century building whose origins can be clearly dated.
Villa Zuccareda, dating from the 18th century, is located near the town hall. It belongs to the municipality and was recently restored. The villa was originally owned by the noble Zuccareda family from Treviso. Its location near the town hall and its municipal ownership distinguish it from the religious buildings that also shape the townscape.
Another historical highlight is the Oratory of San Mamante on the eastern side of Via Montegrappa, not far from Via Postumia. It has been documented since the 13th century. Vedelago's cultural history thus spans the medieval tradition, the 18th-century villa, and the present church dating from 1926.
Villa Emo and Palladian Architecture
Villa Emo is located within the municipality of Vedelago, near Fanzolo. The Venetian villa was created by Andrea Palladio (1508–1580). Since 1996, Villa Emo has been included, together with other Palladian villas in the Veneto, on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Its architectural design can be identified through several elements: Villa Emo consists of a three-storey central building with two colonnaded barchesse, complemented by two dovecotes. The barchesse are the side sections of the complex characterised by columns. Unlike the buildings in the town centre, Villa Emo represents Palladian villa culture and thus offers a distinct perspective on the architectural history of the Veneto.
The GiraSile and the Landscape of the Sile Springs
The GiraSile passes through the natural landscape of the Sile springs between Casacorba di Vedelago (TV) and Torreselle di Piombino Dese (PD). Its starting point is the Porta dell'Acqua at the Botanical Garden. This site combines the landscape character of the Sile springs with a specific, clearly identifiable complex.
The Porta dell'Acqua and the Botanical Garden cover a total of 16,000 square metres. Of this area, 13,000 square metres are occupied by the Botanical Garden of the Sile.
