Lakeside landscape and local context

Revine Lago can be understood through its two natural lakes and the town’s historical and cultural points of reference. Santa Maria and San Giorgio are of glacial origin and are fed by springs from the Piave catchment area. This geological formation is as much a part of the character of the lake district as the clear geographical location of the Parco Archeologico Didattico del Livelet: it is situated in the Lago district of Revine Lago.

The Lago district is also associated with the Lago Film Fest. The independent festival for cinema research was founded in 2005 in the Revine Lago lake district. In Revine Lago, nature, local history and an independent film culture therefore exist side by side, without reducing the town to just one of these facets.

Churches, art and regular events

For historical orientation, the Chiesetta di San Marco provides a clearly dated reference point: it dates from 1755/1760. The history of the Chiesa di San Matteo is older. It is already documented in 1313 and became a parish church in 1537. Inside, it preserves an altarpiece by the local painter Egidio Dall’Oglio dating from the early 18th century.

The Presepe vivente is associated with the Christmas season in Revine Lago. The performance takes place in the church forecourt of S. Matteo Apostolo di Revine and is scheduled from the end of December to the beginning of January. This timing distinguishes the event from the town’s historical features, which are visible year-round.

Monte Frascon and the trails from Revine

Another historical point of reference is the Castello di Monte Frascon. It was destroyed in 1282–1283. Nevertheless, its location and access route are specified for local orientation: the Castello di Monte Frascon can be reached via the old road north of the Santuario di San Francesco di Paola and lies on the summit of Monte Frascon at an altitude of 380 metres. This information connects the historical name with a specific location without equating the site with a surviving structure.

The circular trail from Revine also follows named sections of path. It initially runs along the Via Crucis to the Santuario di San Francesco; the Strada de le Musse No. 1032 is then followed. For the descent to Malga Col Cavaler, the circular trail uses the Strada dei Cavai No. 1033. The route then continues downhill along a forest road.
