Albana combines historic traces, several documented hiking trails and a distinctive culinary character. Castello di Albana and Historic Traces

The Castello di Albana was built to protect the Judrio Valley and was first mentioned in 1161. Its history is marked by numerous military conflicts: the complex was destroyed and rebuilt several times and damaged again during the First World War. The Castello therefore does not represent just one historical moment, but rather a complex that has changed over the course of centuries.

Another prominent trace of the past is the bell tower of the Santo Spirito church. It is an ancient watchtower. Together with the Castello, this feature makes Albana's historical dimension visible in two different structures.

Hiking Trails with Different Starting Points

A short hike leads through the historic village of Albana, making it an independent way to explore the town on foot. Another route can lead back from Centa to Albana and allow for 10,000 steps. This route places a different emphasis, as Albana appears here as the destination of a hike.

Section SI A19 of the Sentiero Italia CAI also reaches the town of Albana/Prepotto and ends at the bridge over the Judrio River. A specific limitation is noted for route orientation: there is no active water point in Albana along section SI A19.

Another connection is provided by stage 9 of the Le 44 Chiesette votive trail. It leads from Castelmonte to Albana. The starting point of this stage can be reached by car, bicycle or on foot; an intercity bus operated by TPL FVG also travels there from Cividale. This means that several documented options are available for reaching the starting point of the same hiking trail.

Regional Products and Wine Experiences

The local character also includes the Schioppettino di Prepotto grape variety. Stanig cultivates this native grape variety and also offers winery visits and wine tastings. Those interested in the connection between landscape, regional cultivation and wine will find a distinct experience here.

Typical local products are sold at Katia Toti. The Al Vecchio Gelso farm offers typical local dishes with wines from Stanig. This allows Albana's culinary side to be discovered in different ways: by purchasing regional products, enjoying a dish with the wines mentioned or visiting the winery followed by a tasting.
