Thermal baths and trails for different daily itineraries

Arta Terme combines a clearly described thermal-bath offering with trails through parks and a cultural setting in which several churches with remarkable frescoes have been preserved. This allows you to organise your travel experiences according to your interests: the Terme di Arta stands for heated pools and water facilities, while the Percorsi document different trail routes and accessibility.

A specific starting point is the Terme di Arta. The facilities include heated pools with hydromassage jets, a separate children's pool with water features and a slide, as well as an indoor pool connected to an outdoor pool.

The features of the trails are also clearly distinguished from one another. The Percorso Rosa begins in the park of the thermal baths and continues through the playground and the park of Palazzo Savoia towards the centre of Arta. The Percorso Blu is barrier-free and accessible by wheelchair. This allows you to distinguish between a trail with a described route through several park areas and an explicitly barrier-free trail, without equating the two offerings.

Churches and frescoes from the Middle Ages to the 18th century

The Chiesa dello Spirito Santo in Chiusini preserves several frescoes that differ in art-historical terms. The ribbed vault of the ceiling contains frescoes from the late 14th century. The chancel vault preserves frescoes of the Evangelists and their symbols, painted by the German Thanner around the middle of the 15th century. The rear wall also features a fresco of the Adoration of the Magi, painted by Giovanni Martini towards the end of the 15th century.

Another historical point of reference is the Chiesetta di San Nicolò degli Alzeri. It was built in the 13th century next to accommodation for warrior monks and pilgrims on their way to the Holy Land. The church of San Nicolò degli Alzeri contains a 13th-century fresco cycle. The reference to the former accommodation and the preserved fresco cycle are therefore distinctive features of this religious building.

The parish church of Piano d’Arta creates a different architectural accent. It was built in 1781 in an unusual octagonal form, based on a design by the Tolmezzo architects Domenico and Angelo Schiavi. Your cultural route therefore brings together different periods and forms of expression: medieval fresco cycles, late-medieval painting and an 18th-century church building with an unusual floor plan.

Regional products

The culinary side includes small shops in the region around Arta Terme. They offer honey, cheese, typical Carnia Cjarsòns, as well as plum and pear spirits. The selection combines everyday regional products with the Cjarsòns mentioned in connection with Carnia and fruit brandies.
