Discover Affi: Monte Moscal, Churches and Hiking
Accommodation in Affi
Affi combines striking landscapes, churches dating back several centuries and events centred around hiking. Monte Moscal in particular characterises the area: the landmark rises 427 metres above the plain and is the destination of numerous tourist excursions. Those who choose Affi as their base will therefore find a place whose special features lie both in its natural surroundings and in its local history.
Monte Moscal and the landscape around Affi
Monte Moscal is a clearly recognisable landmark not only because of its height. Its limestone cliffs formed during the Oligocene and Miocene; numerous fossils have also been found there. This geological history gives the mountain a distinct character that goes beyond simply appreciating the landscape. Another documented connection within the area is the Valsorda, which runs downhill from Incaffi to Bardolino.
Churches and visible local history
The Church of San Bartolomeo dates back to the 13th century and is located in LocalitĂ Caorsa. The Church of Sant'Andrea dates back to the 12th century, is Romanesque in style and was largely built from stone from Incaffi. At San Pietro in Vincoli, the history reaches back even further: the present building was erected in 1761 over a pre-existing Romanesque chapel dating from the 11th century and rebuilt in the Neoclassical style.
The stone defensive tower still standing today on Via Pila also points to an earlier protective function. It dates back to a structure whose construction was authorised in 899 to protect against Hungarian incursions. Together with the churches, it does not create a uniform historical picture, but rather a sequence of different building phases and functions that you can find in various parts of Affi.
Hiking as a travel theme in its own right
Affi is also associated with several activities explicitly dedicated to hiking. The Festival del Cammino takes place annually as a three-day event. It is dedicated to hiking as a contribution to well-being and discovery. The Ultra Walking Challenge offers a more endurance-focused challenge: it is an endurance hiking event on the Percorsi Tricolore and is aimed both at experienced hikers and at people who enjoy hiking.
These two formats place different emphases on the experience, without implying any particular travel itinerary. This offering is complemented by the documented landscapes of Monte Moscal and Valsorda.
Getting oriented and other local pages
For travellers arriving from Germany and Northern Europe, the Affi motorway exit on the Brenner motorway is important: it gives tourists from these regions direct access to Lake Garda. The former Affi railway station also recalls the area's railway connection in the past. The building is now used as a library; the Affi–Garda railway line was closed on 1 July 1956.
If you would like to continue your selection of destinations beyond Affi, you can also choose Castion Veronese, Rivoli Veronese, Poiano, Veronella, Pacengo, Cerea, Castelnuovo Del Garda or Bernardine.
