Lazise combines Lake Garda with a varied landscape and a historic town centre. The town stretches from the lakeshore across the hinterland to the gentle foothills of the morainic hills. Vineyards, olive groves, centuries-old cypresses and wooded areas characterise the surroundings. Lazise can therefore be explored during your stay through several distinct experiences: history and the harbour, paths along the water, regional cuisine and thermal facilities.

Historic Centre and Fortress

In the historic centre of Lazise, you can see ancient walls and the Scaliger Fortress complex with its monumental keep. The Scaliger Fortress was built between 1375 and 1381. San Nicolò al Porto, a Romanesque church from the 12th century built at the harbour of Lazise, provides another historical highlight. The combination of the harbour setting, walls and fortress makes the town centre a distinct sightseeing focus, without suggesting that the individual buildings share the same history.

The restored Dogana Veneta serves as a cultural and social venue for events of international prominence. The history of the former municipality also regularly becomes visible: Every year on 7 May, a historical re-enactment of its rights and privileges takes place. It commemorates the day on which, in 983, the emperor signed the document granting civic autonomy and permission to build the castle.

Getting Around by the Lake

The lakeside path for cyclists and pedestrians between Lazise, Bardolino and Garda begins at Lungolago Marconi. It runs along the lake, is completely flat and leads away from traffic. This makes the route a clearly described option for anyone who wants to explore Lazise on foot or by bicycle in the direction of Bardolino and Garda. Another named connection is the Ciclabile Sud-Est, which connects Peschiera del Garda with Garda.

Villa dei Cedri Thermal Park

Another focus is Villa dei Cedri. The historic villa, built in the Lombard style, dates from the late 18th century and is located in a 13-hectare park. The park contains centuries-old plants, lakes and thermal pools. The thermal park also includes a freely accessible outdoor thermal lake with pools of different temperatures, neck jets, geysers and hydromassage facilities. No reservation is required to access this thermal lake. The villa thus combines historic architecture, parkland and a specifically described thermal offering.

Lake Fish and Regional Events

Lazise's lake fish cuisine includes pike in sauce with polenta, tench risotto and fried bleak. Another culinary tradition is the “Giorni del miele”. On the first weekend in October, it features a national fair of Italian honeys with honey tastings. These two themes complement Lazise's historical and scenic aspects with regional specialities and an annual recurring event.
