Novaglie amid the park, woodland trails and cultural heritage

Novaglie combines several clearly distinct experiences: a public park on the northern edge of the town centre, trails through woodland and hilly landscapes, and historic and spiritual sites. For planning your trip, the Dorsale delle Frazioni “Renzo Giuliani” is particularly interesting. It reaches Novaglie via a trail that climbs through the woods to the village on the hilltop ridge. This means the area can be experienced not only through individual sights, but also through its trail connections and landscape.

Park on Via della Pineta

On the northern edge of the town centre, Via della Pineta is home to a completely redesigned public park covering approximately 3,000 square metres. The park includes footpaths, benches, a drinking fountain, litter bins and picnic tables. There is also a small play area and garden spaces for children. Those travelling with children will therefore find a dedicated outdoor area within the town.

Nature observation is also among the park’s documented features: it contains an insect hotel, two nesting boxes and a bird-feeding station donated by WWF Verona. These facilities complement the paths and seating areas with specific features that make the park recognisable as a distinct place in the town centre.

Hiking on the Dorsale Giuliani

A shaded section of the Dorsale delle Frazioni “Renzo Giuliani” passes through the woods alongside the grounds of a villa before reaching the Fontana delle Streghe. The route therefore connects different types of trail scenery, without this implying a single overall distance or a specific level of difficulty. The city bus network serves all the districts crossed by the Dorsale Giuliani, as well as numerous starting and intermediate points. This allows you to begin, end or interrupt a hike at various locations.

The ancient Via Molinara is also part of the area’s history. It once connected Novaglie with Montorio. This former route should be distinguished from the current description of the trails, but it provides an additional link to the development of the town and its surroundings. The programme of the 89th Sagra del Brocolo 2025 also included a walk in the hills of Novaglie at 3:30 p.m. This date refers to a past event and not to future plans.

Pilotòn and historic sites

The Pilotòn is a 3.20-metre-high limestone megalith of phallic shape. Its circumference measures 2.05 metres at the base and 1.80 metres at the top. According to researchers, it is considered a sacred megalith that was allegedly erected at a special site to promote the fertility of the earth. It is probably connected with three nearby villages dating from the Middle Bronze Age, around 1500 BC. Its precise form, measurements and traditional interpretation make the Pilotòn a distinct cultural and historical subject within Novaglie.

The area’s religious history includes the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena at Via della Chiesa 1, 37142 Verona, as well as San Fidenzio Hill. On 21 November 1966, the Poor Clare community moved to this hill in Novaglie, into a new monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Casa San Fidenzio is a diocesan house of spirituality in Novaglie, at Via Pradelle 62, 37142 Verona. It offers prayer, retreat and educational activities for laypeople, members of spiritual communities and priests.
