Accommodation in Arcugnano
Arcugnano between the lake, trails and cultural history
Arcugnano brings together different reasons to visit: at Lago di Fimon, the landscape and its wetland flora take centre stage, while churches, villas and historic buildings showcase the cultural side of the area. If you are looking for accommodation in Arcugnano, you can therefore assess the character of the destination according to your personal interests – between nature observation, trails in the Colli Berici and historic architecture.
Lago di Fimon and the landscape of the Colli Berici
Lago di Fimon is one of the oldest lakes in Italy and one of the few that has not been drained. The lake area is home to typical wetland flora. This includes alders, willows and poplars, as well as cattails, reeds and water lilies. The rare water chestnut is also found there. These features make Lago di Fimon a clearly defined nature-focused option among the local attractions.
The lake can be reached via a cycle path that begins opposite the Arco delle Scalette in the centre of Vicenza. This means that the landscape can also be viewed as part of a cycle tour, without assuming an unverified distance or travel time. The municipality of Arcugnano also has five existing trails; in the Colli Berici area, they are numbered 11 to 15. Another excursion trail leads to the Valle dei Mulini di Arcugnano.
Churches, towers and villas
The Chiesa di Santa Maria della Neve e di San Rocco predominantly features forms from the 16th century. Its chapel is already documented as dating from the late 13th century. Another historic trace is the Torre Pentagonale, a 10th-century tower with an irregular ground plan.
The villas also reflect different architectural periods. The Villa Franceschini Canera di Salasco in Arcugnano dates from 1770 and is attributed to the architect Scamozzi. Villa Montanari dates approximately from the period between 1806 and 1857. It is an example of 19th-century Neoclassicism with influences from Neo-Palladian architecture.
The Oratorio di San Pietro is located in Contrada Zanchi; it is an oratory dating from 1706 in a Baroque style influenced by Classicism. Its square interior is decorated with numerous statues made of Vicenza or Berici stone. In addition, a small church is documented that probably dates from the 14th century and contains a fresco cycle by Battista da Vicenza, executed around 1420.
Seasonal reference and further destinations
The Sagra di San Luca is associated with the third Sunday in May and the district of Torri di Arcugnano. This specific date is therefore part of the orientation, alongside the enduringly documented buildings and landscape features.
