Asiago combines natural and cultural attractions with trails that offer different ways to explore the area. The town on the plateau is therefore an appealing destination for travellers who do not want to limit their stay to a single excursion, but prefer to choose between landscapes, family activities, local history and scientific topics.

Science and Nature on the Plateau

A special place is the Cima Ekar Observation Station. It is operated by the Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova of INAF and has the 1.82-metre Copernico telescope as well as a fully robotic Schmidt 67/92 wide-field telescope. This makes the station one of the notable scientific institutions that you can explore in Asiago alongside the traditional natural and cultural attractions.

The Museo Naturalistico di Asiago also preserves and displays natural history specimens from the Asiago Plateau area. The museum additionally carries out educational, outreach and research activities. Its focus is therefore not limited to the objects on display, but also includes engagement with the area's natural features.

Circular Trails with Different Highlights

For a manageable walk, the Sentiero del Maestro Patrizio is a good choice. The approximately 3.7-kilometre easy circular trail features gentle climbs and is suitable for families. Its landscape alternates between beech forests, spruce forests, meadows and alpine ponds. The route therefore combines an easy trail with several typical landscape features of the plateau.

Another option is the Contrada Ave – Prunno – Asiago circular trail. It can be used on foot, by mountain bike, on horseback or with snowshoes. If you stay in Asiago, the main town on the plateau, this circular trail is one of the documented ways to explore the surrounding area according to your preferred mode of transport. The votive chapel of S. Carlo is also within reach of the town centre, just a few minutes away on foot.

Family Activities and Historical Insights

Villaggio degli Gnomi is a family-oriented natural attraction in a forest near the centre of Asiago. Hidden little houses lie among the trees and rocks. The associated trail leads through green meadows, ancient forests and historic tunnels. As an educational circular walk through the world of gnomes and the forest, Villaggio degli Gnomi offers a distinct experience among the attractions in Asiago.

The history of the plateau is also present in several locations. The former prisons of Asiago now house the Museo Le Carceri. The museum regularly hosts themed exhibitions on the art, history and traditions of the Asiago Plateau. Near the entrance to the ossuary crypt, there is also a small museum with various war relics, historical documents and photographs collected from the battlefields of the plateau.

Other Places in the Selection

If you would like to explore other destinations in this selection besides Asiago, you can find Agugliaro, Longare, Cismon del Grappa, Grisignano Di Zocco, San Giorgio Di Perlena, Mason Vicentino and Gambugliano here.

For the overarching travel overview: Vicenza.
