Lastebasse between the Astico Valley and the Plateau

The Lastebasse area extends along the right-hand slope of the upper Astico Valley and lies between 420 and 1,822 metres above sea level. The landscape is characterised by steep, rugged terrain and deeply cut, wooded valleys. Val Lunga follows the border with the Trentino municipality of Folgaria, while Val Lozza borders the municipality of Valdastico. The Civetta stream also shapes the area: it descends from the Altopiano dei Fiorentini and flows into the Astico immediately below the Lastebasse municipal area. Notable natural attractions also include the waterfalls of Val Civetta, which are among the few waterfalls in the province of Vicenza and are considered particularly appealing to tourists.

Trails with Various Starting Points

There are several specific starting points in the area. CAI Trail 571 begins immediately behind the church. CAI Trail 569 starts at Pickel near Contra’ Giaconi di Lastebasse, next to the bridge over Val Civetta. An initial section leads from Lastebasse towards the Altopiano dei Fiorentini and passes by Soglio D’Aspio. From the Restele chapel, the trail offers wide-ranging views. From Forcella Molon, the summit and Fort Campomolon can be reached in 20 minutes.

Culture and Designated Historic Sites

Lastebasse’s sights include the parish church of S. Marco evangelista, the Church of S. Prosdocimo vescovo in the hamlet of Posta, and the Church of S. Fermo e Rustico, built in 1833. In addition, several areas with archaeological or commemorative significance have been designated: Bassa Val delle Lanze–I Fiorentini is considered a Palaeolithic archaeological site, while Forte Campomolon is a site of historical and commemorative interest. The Val delle Lanze–Fiorentini area is also designated as a trench or trench-system site.

The Monumento a Carlo D’Asburgo commemorates the visit of Emperor Charles of Austria to his troops, as well as those who fell in 1915–1916. It stands on the Altopiano dei Fiorentini within the municipality of Lastebasse, at an altitude of 1,450 metres. The Cippo a Carlo D’Asburgo is a First World War monument dedicated to Archduke Charles of Austria, located in Busatti di Lastebasse (Vicenza). It stands on Strada Regionale 350, approximately 10 metres from the bridge over the Astico.
