Piovene Rocchette lies at the foot of Monte Summano and combines nature-focused trails with cultural and historical sites in the town. For planning your trip, different types of experiences can be identified: The regional hiking trail VI 461 leads from the town to the Santuario dell'Angelo and is classified as difficulty level E.

Nature-Focused Trails on Monte Summano

Piovene Rocchette is a starting point for predominantly nature-focused, moderately demanding trails. The Sentiero dei Girolimini follows a well-preserved mule track measuring approximately 6 kilometres in length and has a total elevation gain of about 950 metres. Along the trail, shaded woodland sections alternate with clearings offering panoramic views. Wild orchids may bloom there in spring. Thus, this route focuses not only on following the historic mule track but also on the seasonal possibility of observing plants. Another point of reference is the regional hiking trail VI 461: in Piovene Rocchette, it leads from the town to the Santuario dell'Angelo and is classified as difficulty level E. These two details describe different characteristics of the trails without combining them into a single circular route.

Sanctuary and Religious History

The Oratorio della Beata Vergine dell'Angelo lies in a hollow on Monte Angelo, on the way to Monte Summano. Its neoclassical façade is surrounded by meadows and forests. Following the dissolution of the Girolimini order in 1774, the Chiesa dell'Angelo took on the role of a Marian sanctuary. The Rinnovo del voto alla Madonna dell'Angelo is also part of the town's traditional religious heritage and includes a traditional votive procession to the Santuario della Madonna dell'Angelo.

Culture in the Townscape

The Monumento ai Caduti on Viale Vittoria was created in 1923–1924. It depicts a bronze soldier and a woman holding her son. The Parco dell'Ospizio adjoins the Santa Maria in Ara Coeli chapel and can be reached via Via Levrena, passing the Birreria Vecchia. You will find further independent points of interest in Parco Rodari: the mural “Asterix & Obelix”, which depicts the history of Piovene Rocchette, is located there. Villa Verlato also features a fresco cycle dating from the final years of the 16th century.

Caves and Brewing Tradition

The natural caves at the Birreria Vecia were used by the Girolimini monks for brewing beer. The brewing tradition of the Birreria Vecia dates back to 1867. The operators of the Birreria Vecia offer guided visits to the caves by prior arrangement. This note distinguishes the cave experience from the freely described landscape and cultural attractions and should be taken into account when planning your own visit. For further orientation, you can also compare Trissino, Brogliano, Lumignano, Ponte Di Barbarano, Chiampo, Mussolente, Radi and Sarego.
