Colderù between the Fresco Trail and mountain hikes

Colderù combines a religious walking route with a small church, traditional wayside shrines and paths through the landscape between the Piave and Monte Garda. If you would like to combine culture and hiking, a particularly clear route leads from the centre of Lentiai along the Sentiero dei Capitelli Affrescati, down through Colderù and Stabie, and then back uphill towards Ronchena.

The Sentiero dei Capitelli Affrescati was created in 1995 along the old connection between Lentiai and the hamlet of Colderù. Ten wayside shrines stand along the route, each painted by a different contemporary artist. Their depictions symbolically refer to local traditions and crafts. As a result, the route is described not only as a connection between places, but also as a succession of motifs that make the region’s culture visible.

Chiesa di San Giacomo and religious heritage

Another cultural landmark is today’s Chiesa di San Giacomo in Colderù. Traces of extensions, elevations and restorations carried out over the centuries can still be seen on it. The central fresco theme depicts the life and miracle of Saint James the Greater according to the Golden Legend. Saint James is described as the patron saint of pilgrims and the patron saint of Colderù.

The circular route “Giro delle chiesette e dei capitelli” also includes Colderù. It leads into the village and to the small church dedicated to Saint James. This means that different route connections are available for exploring the religious heritage: the Sentiero dei Capitelli Affrescati follows the old connection between Lentiai and Colderù, while the circular route incorporates the church into a route connecting small churches and wayside shrines.

Hiking from Colderù to Monte Garda

The hike “Le antiche vie dell’alpeggio da Colderù al Monte Garda” has a different focus. It is described as a moderate tour along paved roads, unpaved tracks and hiking trails. The route follows a circular course through forests between the Piave and Monte Garda and offers views of Valbelluna and the Belluno Dolomites.

This hike is available on request for groups of ten or more participants. This detail distinguishes it from the culture-focused route descriptions around the wayside shrines and the Chiesa di San Giacomo: here, the circular course, the various trail surfaces, the forest sections and the views of Valbelluna and the Dolomites are the main focus.

Seasonal and community aspects

During the Christmas season, Colderù is festively decorated with lights and handmade decorations created by local residents. Throughout the year, the Gruppo Giovani Colderù also offers entertainment and community activities for children and families. These two details add a seasonal and community aspect of the village to its routes and cultural sites.

If you would like to extend your research to other places, you can find Perarolo di Cadore Perarolo di Cadore, San Nicolò Di Comelico San Nicolò Di Comelico, Salzen Salzen, Calalzo Di Cadore Calalzo Di Cadore, Paderno Paderno, Lorenzago Di Cadore Lorenzago Di Cadore, Puos Dʼalpago Puos Dʼalpago and Villanova Villanova.
