Accommodation in Pian Molin-costa di Mezzo
Pian Molin-costa di Mezzo combines paths through the Dolomites with viewpoints, historic buildings and special destinations in the hamlets of San Tomaso Agordino. Pian Molin and Costa di Mezzo are characterised by traditional Dolomite hay barns, known as “tabià ”, as well as preserved historic buildings. At the same time, the documented experiences range from the Cammino delle Dolomiti to high-altitude paths and viewpoints. If you want to assess the location of an accommodation based on specific excursion destinations, this area offers an unusually diverse selection of paths and sights.
Hiking trails with different destinations
Stage 10 of the Cammino delle Dolomiti passes through Pian Molìn. From Costa di Mezzo, it crosses a bridge to Pecol, whose old load-bearing wooden structure has been preserved. Another notable route is the alpine trail 623 of the Catena dell’Auta. It runs from Pian Molin–Costoia to Forcella S’ciota and is classified as difficulty level E in the regional list of alpine trails. From a viewpoint along this trail landscape, Alleghe and its lake, Civetta and the Marmolada can be seen. The Sasso-Bianco circular tour via Costa di Mezzo is listed as 9.2 kilometres long, with five hours of walking time excluding breaks and 758 metres of ascent. Its return route uses trail ST8 and descends via Piaia, Pecol, Costa de mez, Val and Mezzaval. The route from Celat to Rifugio Sasso Bianco leads via Mezzavalle and Costa di Mezzo to Costoia, where the CAI trail to the refuge begins; Rifugio Sasso Bianco is located at the trail’s destination. Another connection is the Forcella trail from San Tomaso Agordino, which reaches the nearby municipality of Vallada Agordina. Approximate figures have been recorded for further high-altitude destinations: the ascent to a bivouac takes approximately two hours and 45 minutes and reaches an altitude of 1,844 metres. From Piaia, another path leads in approximately two and a half hours to a location at around 1,840 metres. These figures belong to different route descriptions and should therefore each remain assigned to the stated starting point and destination.Panoramas and local character
The path to Piz Croce leads to a summit cross at an altitude of 1,627 metres and offers views of Civetta, Pelsa and Sasso Bianco. Together with the panoramas of Alleghe, the lake, the Marmolada and other natural destinations, this creates a clear connection to the landscape, although not all paths have the same character. Pian Molin and Costa di Mezzo are hamlets of San Tomaso Agordino characterised by places of great natural interest and beautiful panoramas. The Mulino di Pian Molin is one of the architectural highlights and is considered one of the most impressive buildings in the area. The Centro Astronomico Provinciale “Emigranti” is also located in the hamlet of Celat. The aluminium dome can accommodate up to 25 spectators; a projector depicts the movement of more than 2,400 celestial bodies. For a different kind of landscape experience, the Civetta zipline runs in two sections from Canacede via Costoia to Celat. It consists of three pillars and two cables and covers a total length of 1,600 metres as well as a difference in altitude of 260 metres.Local events and arrival information
