Accommodation in Zoldo Alto
Zoldo Alto between the Dolomite landscape and Val di Goima
In Val di Goima, Zoldo Alto combines natural areas, historical evidence and various opportunities for active days. West of Zoldo Alto, the Civetta–Cime San Sebastiano Natura 2000 site encompasses the entire area. Its characteristic habitats include montane and subalpine Norway spruce forests of Picea abies. The area also includes Monte Pelmo northeast of the Maè Valley; the Civetta face rises northwest of Val di Goima.
Landscape between Monte Pelmo and Civetta
Another landscape area is Monte Pelmo–Monteval, Formin. It is characterised by Dolomite formations of outstanding landscape value and includes subalpine larch–Swiss pine forest formations. The smaller Sorgenti del Civetta natural area also belongs to Zoldo Alto. Those wishing to distinguish between different landscape impressions will therefore find both extensive forest formations and striking Dolomite formations here, as well as the named areas around Monte Pelmo and Civetta.
The small lake of Žarnadòi, also called Lake Fertaze, is equipped with fireplaces, tables and benches for picnics. The precise name is helpful when you want to distinguish this landscape feature from the larger natural areas and mountain formations.
Val di Goima: short circular trail and regional history
In Val di Goima, an easy, one-hour circular trail connects the old houses of Chiesa and Molin. The route thus provides a manageable way to access the area’s historic settlement features. In Val di Goima, in the Zoldo Alto area, the Museo degli usi, costumi e mestieri della valle di Goima is housed in the former municipal school in Molin.
Molin is also home to an old sawmill with a water mill. It was one of the last facilities in Zoldo to cease operations. In Chiesa di Goima, the parish church of San Tiziano dates from 1400. The church was recently renovated, has a typical onion-shaped bell tower and preserves valuable works of art. The circular trail, museum, sawmill and church therefore each offer a different focus, ranging from historic buildings and working history to sacred art.
Sports opportunities in Pecol and Palafavera
For winter sports, Pecol offers 5 kilometres of illuminated downhill runs for night skiing. These include the black Foppe run and the red Cristelin run. The Ski Civetta ski area also offers the alternative Giro della Grande Guerra 1915–1918 ski route. Another form of winter sport is the snowshoe route from Pecol to Baita Cristelin. It is easy, takes 2 to 3 hours there and back, reaches an altitude of 1,607 metres and has an elevation gain of 230 metres.
In Palafavera, there are the moderately difficult circular cross-country ski trails Pompeo Fattor, with lengths of 5 and 7.5 kilometres. They are suitable for athletes and families. Palafavera is also home to Veneto’s only biathlon facility; the biathlon shooting range has 30 shooting lanes. In summer, the Civetta lift area is a destination for hikers and mountain bikers.
