A central point of reference for the town's history is the Museo del Territorio. It is divided into three main sections: archaeology, sacred art, and ethnography. Founded in 1466, the Biblioteca Guarneriana is Friuli's first public library and one of the oldest in Europe. The churches reveal different historical and artistic focal points. The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate has origins dating back to the 14th century and houses a Renaissance fresco cycle by Pellegrino da San Daniele, created between 1497 and 1522. On the façade of the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Fratta, the lunette contains a bas-relief created by Giorgio da Corona in 1476. It depicts the Madonna and Child enthroned, with two kneeling angels.

Portonat is also attributed to Andrea Palladio. The church of San Daniele in Castello has more than a thousand years of history, houses valuable works of art, and offers panoramic views across Friuli. For exploring the landscape, the Circular Route of San Daniele del Friuli (R007) begins in San Daniele del Friuli, heads towards Comerzo, and crosses the Tagliamento River. Another circular route, the Anello di San Daniele – Rio Repudio – Arcano Superiore, runs between San Daniele and Arcano Superiore through hills and vineyards and along bodies of water. The two routes described therefore have different focuses: R007 is characterized by its direction towards Comerzo and its crossing of the Tagliamento, while the Anello emphasizes the sequence of hilly landscapes, vineyards, and waterways.
