Sant'anna D'alfaedo offers a diverse gateway to the natural history, archaeology and landscapes of the Lessini Mountains. Between fossil finds, prehistoric traces, a striking natural arch and historic buildings, it is a destination that you can explore according to your different interests. In addition, there are designated trails and an equipped green area with facilities for families.
Fossils and prehistoric traces
An important cultural point of reference is the Museo Paleontologico e Preistorico. It preserves numerous fossils of marine animals embedded in Pietra della Lessinia. The collection also includes prehistoric finds from the Lessini Mountains, including materials from Iron Age and Bronze Age settlements in the Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo area. Particularly striking is a fossil of a marine animal from the Upper Cretaceous, more than 5 metres long, which has been identified as a shark. The archaeological site of Le Guaite also leads back to the Bronze Age. Remains of defensive walls have been preserved there; they were built during the Middle and Late Bronze Age to protect a hilltop settlement. The caves around Ponte di Veja complete this chronological arc: they preserve evidence of human use during the Lower, Middle and Upper Paleolithic, including flint tools.Ponte di Veja and cave exploration
Ponte di Veja is a natural arch on the edge of the municipality of Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo. Its span is approximately 40 metres, its minimum thickness is 9 metres and its width is 20 metres. These stated measurements describe the dimensions of the natural arch and make it identifiable as a distinct landscape feature. Another focus lies underground. With 877 metres explored so far, Spluga della Preta is one of the deepest caves in Italy and plays an important role in the history of cave exploration. The access rule is crucial for orientation: entry into the interior is permitted only to experienced cavers with prior authorisation. This clearly distinguishes this cave experience from a freely accessible attraction.Trails, green area and historic buildings
For outdoor activity, there is the Giro ad anello del Monte Tesoro circular route near Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo. It is moderately difficult and can be completed on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. This offers different ways to experience the same route depending on the chosen means of transport, without requiring any particular use. At Bosco Allegro, you will find an equipped green area with covered barbecue areas, themed woodland trails and an equipped children's area. Alongside the natural history and archaeological themes, this also places simple leisure and recreational facilities at the centre. Forte Monte Tesoro provides another historic highlight; it was built between 1905 and 1911 in the Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo area.
