Grado: Coastline with Clear Highlights
Grado can be explored through several clearly distinguishable travel interests: shallow waters and extensive beaches, sacred history, medical thalassotherapy, as well as cycle paths within the city and beyond. The shallow waters off Grado make the coast particularly suitable for families. Grado’s beaches stretch for around eight kilometres and face south. This gives the town a clear coastal focus, while also allowing cultural and active pursuits to be incorporated into travel planning.
Beaches and Water as the Main Features of the Town
Basilicas, Mosaics and Roman Remains
The town’s history is also present at several distinct sites. The Basilica di Sant’Eufemia has floor mosaics covering an area of around 700 m². The Museo Civico del Tesoro di Grado permanently displays old liturgical furnishings, reliquaries, liturgical vestments and sacred objects from Grado’s ecclesiastical heritage. The Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie is part of the early Christian route through Grado and thus adds another named site to the sacred focus.
Roman remains at Piazza Biagio Marin are accessible outdoors and can be viewed during a walk through the lanes of the old town. This site combines a specific archaeological testimony with a tour of the old town, without requiring a visit to a museum.
Thalassotherapy and a Fixed Date in the Annual Calendar
The Terme Marine di Grado offer medical thalassotherapy treatments using heated seawater. This focus differs from the beaches and historical sights and is relevant for travellers who also wish to consider their stay from a health-oriented wellness perspective.
The Perdòn di Barbana is part of the town’s special calendar. It is celebrated in the Grado Lagoon on the first Sunday of every July. Those who take this period into account when planning their trip can combine their stay with a specific named event in the town.
Cycle Paths within the City and the Ciclovia Alpe Adria
Grado has a network of cycle paths within the city. In addition, the Ciclovia Alpe Adria ends in Grado and is 425 km long in total.
Another bookable highlight is the Wine&Craft Tour offered by Consorzio Grado Turismo. It adds a specific offering to the selection that combines wine and crafts in its name, without defining the stay around the beach, culture or cycling.
