Discover Villaverla
Accommodation in Villaverla
Villaverla combines historic buildings, festive village culture and a landscape that invites you to enjoy walks, cycling routes and tours of Venetian villas. When choosing your travel experiences, it is particularly interesting that different ways of visiting come together here: you can discover architectural details and frescoes, experience local festivals with food and music, or explore natural areas with clearly differentiated access regulations.
Villas, Churches and Visible History
In the historic centre of Villaverla, Palazzo Verlato Putin preserves an extensive fresco cycle depicting the history and virtues of the Verlato family. Villa Martinengo Spiller also takes you back to earlier eras: sections of wall with a distinctive sawtooth profile, attributed to the 14th century, have been preserved there.
Villa Ghellini reflects a different architectural history. Its long façade was begun in 1664 by enlarging and incorporating an older Gothic villa. Areas open to visitors include the Sala dei Caminetti and several rooms on the first floor. You reach them via a Baroque ceremonial staircase decorated with statues. In Novoledo, the Chiesa di Sant'Andrea recalls a more recent building phase: it was completely rebuilt in 1848, consecrated on 30 November 1871 and restored several times. The present-day Chiesa di San Domenico in Villaverla dates from the beginning of the 20th century.
Festivals with Regional Character
If you would like to plan your stay around local festival culture, several events offer different experiences. The Sagra del Sacro Cuore di Novoledo is a historic, well-attended village festival held every summer. Its programme includes local cuisine, live music and entertainment for all age groups. The Sagra di San Domenico takes place in Villaverla during the first days of August and includes food stalls, dance music, fairground rides, market stalls and a fireworks display on the final evening.
The annual cycle is also marked by its own traditions. Epiphany on 6 January includes the traditional burning of the Befana, or “stria”, hot chocolate, sweets and entertainment for children. In July, the courtyard of Villa Ghellini becomes an open-air cinema every Wednesday during “Cinema in Villa”, showing films for all age groups. Clinto is also a historic grape variety linked to the history of the Villaverla area.
Landscape and Different Natural Areas
The landscape around Villaverla is ideal for scenic walks and also offers cycling routes. Curated tours of the Venetian villas combine physical activity with the region’s architectural history. The Oasi di Villaverla has a particularly strong connection with nature: it continues to provide drinking water from the valuable aquifer beneath it. This function helped preserve its natural habitats from urbanisation.
At the Risorgive del Bacchiglione, visitor access is clearly structured. There is a freely and openly accessible recreational area, an area accessible only through guided tours, and an integrally protected zone reserved exclusively for scientific purposes. The area includes land within SIC IT322004 and ZPS IT3220013 and remains part of the Natura 2000 network.
