Turriaco combines historic sites with cycling routes and a local festival centered around BacalĂ  as the main culinary offering. If you would like to plan your stay around different interests, you will find several points of interest here: historic buildings and works of art, routes along the Isonzo, a pump track, and the Festa in Piazza e del BacalĂ  in the town center.

Historic Sites and Traces along the Isonzo

One of the notable historic buildings is Villa Priuli Fonda, built by the Priuli family in the 17th century. Palace Priuli also dates back to the 17th century and is located in Turriaco. During the First World War, Palace Priuli served as a military command post. This means that, in one location, the architectural history of the 17th century stands alongside a specific connection to the history of the First World War.

Another cultural stop is the Church of San Rocco. It was built between the late 17th century and the first half of the 18th century and houses several works of art. Anyone interested in religious buildings and art can include San Rocco in their travel plans. Northwest of Turriaco, on the left bank of the Isonzo, there are also several burial finds from Roman times in the SI TURRIACO 01 area.

Cycling Routes, Walking Paths and the Parco dell’Isonzo

The cycling and walking route “I6 – From Turriaco to the Parco dell’Isonzo” combines physical activity with the landscape. It connects Turriaco’s square with the Parco dell’Isonzo. In addition, the Giorgio-Gaber cycling route, named in September 2019, is part of the Parco dell’Isonzo trail network.

Another option is aimed at travelers who want to combine a specific cycling route with a sporting destination. The Sagrado–Turriaco cycling route runs via Via Cosani and Via 5 Giugno to the pump track in Turriaco. The pump-track course features climbs and descents and is suitable for acceleration, jumps and acrobatic exercises. The Sagrado–Turriaco cycling route is accessible year-round. It can be reached by regional trains that allow bicycles, as far as Sagrado, which can be taken into account when arriving by bicycle.

The Tenco cycling route also passes “El Corridor,” a work created by artist Giuliano Cecone from reused objects. The work adds an artistic element to route planning, without requiring you to limit your trip to historic buildings.

Local Character and Culinary Occasion

The Festa in Piazza e del BacalĂ  is a traditional festival in the town center of Turriaco. Its culinary offering places BacalĂ  at the center. If, in addition to culture and cycling, you would also like to include a culinary occasion in your travel plans, this festival offers a distinct connection to the town. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore first decide whether historic sites, a route along the Isonzo, the pump track or the culinary festival should be the focus of your stay.

Turriaco is therefore well suited as a clearly defined travel destination for independent travelers who want to shape their stay around a theme. The historic buildings and San Rocco provide an introduction to the town’s history; the routes connect Turriaco with the trail network along the Isonzo and with Sagrado, respectively; the pump track adds a sporting element.
